During the Vietnam War, the standard U.S. individual field ration was officially designated Meal, Combat, Individual (MCI), though universally known as the C-Ration. Each meal was packed in a small cardboard box labeled “MEAL, COMBAT, INDIVIDUAL”, the meat type, and the B-unit number. These were shipped in larger cases of 12 meals, secured with wire or later plastic strapping.
