This 1/48 scale M2HB Twin .50 Cal Machine Gun Mount with Improvised Gun Shield depicts a rare, field-modified weapon installation inspired by real battlefield ingenuity rather than standard issue equipment.

Designed to suit a range of U.S. vehicles from the Vietnam War—particularly the M113 APC—this set features twin Browning M2HB machine guns, correctly configured for left- and right-hand ammunition feed, making such an improvised twin installation technically plausible.

The addition of an improvised gun shield reflects crew efforts to increase both firepower and survivability in combat conditions.

The M113 originally mounted a single M2HB at the commander’s hatch, leaving the gunner exposed. Combat experience—especially in Vietnam—led crews to experiment with armoured gun shields and non-standard weapon layouts.

While twin .50 cal mounts were not a standard U.S. Army configuration, the M2HB’s ability to feed from either side made such improvised installations feasible when crews adapted available components, reflecting the resourcefulness seen throughout the conflict.
