The Light SEAL Support Craft entered U.S. Navy service in the late 1960s, purpose-built for high-speed riverine operations in Vietnam. Operating in the confined waterways of the Mekong Delta, the LSSC supported SEAL reconnaissance, interdiction and direct-action missions. The engine compartment was a critical maintenance point in the harsh delta environment — frequently accessed between operations.
