The 81mm is the mainstay indirect fire round across NATO and allied forces — from the British L16 to the US M252 and Australian F2 — used for HE, smoke, and illumination missions.

A fixture of infantry support since the mid-20th century, the 81mm mortar can be fired at reduced charge — down to “Charge 0,” using only the ignition cartridge with no extra propellant.

This sends the 4–5kg round just 70–710m, useful for close-in support, training, and minimum-range firing tables on systems like the M252 and F2.
