From the fire support bases of Vietnam to forward operating bases across the Middle East, the humble 200L fuel drum has served double duty on the battlefield for decades.
Once empty, these steel drums were never wasted — filled with earth, sand, or concrete, they became the building blocks of some of the most effective improvised fortifications in modern military history.
Kit contains: 9 × 3D printed resin half-drums (vertical cut)
This set gives you nine vertically split half-drums, ready to form the iconic barrel bunker walls seen at U.S. and Allied fire support bases throughout Vietnam, and replicated in conflicts ever since.
Stack them in a single row for a perimeter barrier, double them up for a blast wall around a gun emplacement, or embed them into groundwork for a half-buried fortification effect. The flat vertical face makes them easy to position against foam, plaster, or putty groundwork, while the detailed exterior captures the characteristic rolling hoops and bung details of the real thing.
In Vietnam, drum bunkers were a fixture of fire support bases, gun emplacements, guard towers, and hootch fortifications across all Allied forces — U.S., Australian, and ARVN alike. Drums were positioned empty, then filled by hand with earth or sand.
More permanent installations were finished with a cement-and-soil plaster over the exterior. One important detail for the accuracy-minded modeller: drums marked with orange bands were strictly avoided — their Agent Orange residue made them too toxic to handle.
