Zero charge rounds use only the base ignition cartridge, no propellant increments, giving mortar crews the shortest possible firing range. This makes them ideal for close-range or “over the hill” targeting, and for reducing recoil strain on light armoured vehicles during rapid fire. Automatic turrets like the Patria NEMO also use Charge 0 for MRSI tactics, firing short-range rounds after long-range ones so both impact simultaneously.
